The following is an example of the fine wines available at the Anglesey Arms throughout the year:

Whites

Donjon de la Tour, Vin de Pays de L'Aude

£12.00

Refreshing light dry white from the south of France

By the glass (175ml) £2.95

Sauvignon "Cuvée Prestige" Côtes de Tarn, Domaine Vigne Lourac 2003

£13.00

From the south west of France, comes this fresh, grassy, gooseberry scented wine. Dry yet herbaceous and luscious.

By the glass (175ml) £3.35

Chakma's Bark Natural Chardonnay, South Africa 2003

£14.00

"Natural" is another way of saying "unwooded". This wine is mouth-watering, creamy and full of tropical fruit, without being heavy or hard work, just pure, "natural" and darn right delicious.

Rueda, Hermanos Lurton Bornos Spain 2003

£15.00

You wouldn't believe that Spain could make such deliciously fresh white wines; so here's the proof!

Pinot Grigio de Friuli. Tenuta Beltrame 2003

£15.00

A superior and delectable version of this popular dry white wine. Pleasantly aromatic with a lovely soft light, apricotty fruit, perfectly balanced with fresh citrus acidity. Wonderfully drinkable.

Sauvignon Blanc, Forrest Estate, Marlborough, New Zealand 2001/2

£18.00

Move over Cloudy Bay! From one of the best vineyard sites in Marlborough, this intense, fragrant dry white wine, has masses of vital herbaceous, gooseberry character and is mouth-wateringly irresistable.

Chablis, Domaine de Bois d'Yver, George Pico 2001/2

£18.00

This is proper, unadulterated (that means unoaked) Chablis. The wines are superbly pure and natural tasting, yet structured and characterful enough to take on most food. (Available in half bottles)

Sancerre Blanc, Christian Lauverjat 2002

£18.00

This delicious medal winning wine is a pure, typical Sancerre with a classic gooseberry and nettle nose, and ripe cantaloupe melon fruit ripped up by that racy Sancerre acidity. (Available in half bottles.)

Saint Véran, J P Paquet, France 2002

£21.00

This creamy, rich and elegant wine comes from the south of Burgundy. Butterscotch on the nose, and plenty of lush chardonnay fruit, with hints of almonds and fresh citrus acidity. Wonderful with chicken or fish dishes.

Rosé

Cotes de Rhone Rose Darriaud 2003

£11.00

A classic style dry wine with redcurrant and wild strawberry on the nose, leading to a deliciously concentrated rose packed with elegant hints of berry fruit.

By the glass (175ml) £2.75

Vacqueyras Rosé, Montirius, France 2002

£18.00

This rare and special wine is so pretty pink and has a lovely rose petal and raspberry scent. Delicate, elegant and utterly charming, lovely with starters or fish, or just sip it on a sunny day.

Reds

Cabernet-Merlot, Côtes de Tarn, Domaine Vigne Lourac 2001

£11.00

A juicy little number from the warmth of south-west France. Fleshy and sumptuous enough to quaff by the glass, yet special enough to accompany most things on our menu.

By the glass (175ml) £2.75

Rioja Crianza, Carlos Serres 1999

£13.00

This classic wine has all the smooth, red fruit flavour and oaky vanilla style you'd expect from Spain's most famous wine making region.

By the glass (175ml) £3.25

Château Carbonneau, Ste. Foye Bordeaux 2002

£14.00

This tiny estate produces beautiful, pure claret which, if opened a little in advance opens out into something really special. Rich, perfumed and very moor-ish. (Available in halves and magnums)

Weemala Merlot, Logan Wines, Orange, Australia 2001

£15.00

This lovely Merlot is restrained by Aussie standards. Its rich, succulent plum and black cherry spiced fruit is not overblown but pure elegance. Perfect with our steaks, grills and stews.

Lirac, Domaine Corne-Loup, France 2002

£15.00

Lirac is a little winemaking area just across the river Rhône from Châteauneuf du Pape. Lirac wines are dark, flavoursome, spicy and full-bodied; so we'd describe it as a mini Châteauneuf, yet at half the price.

Morgon "Cuvée Tradition", Domaine F & J Calot 2000

£16.00

We think this is the most authentic, traditional Beaujolais there is and it tastes great too! Charming and structured like a good Burgundy, but with oodles of sumptuous, fleshy cherry fruit.

Rioja Crianza Herencia Remondo 2001

£14.00

A rare offering from a very small estate, which warrants duplication of the marque because of its extreme smoothness followed by the inevitably peppery notes of temperanillo..

Maranges 1er Cru Fuissière, Roger Belland, (Côte de Beaune) 2000

£21.00

Only a small amount of this little known gorgeous red Burgundy is made. Masses of velvety rich, dark Pinot noir fruit, perfectly tamed by lovely, toasty oak - stunning stuff for the Burgundy buff.

Gigondas, Montirius, Rhône Valley, France 2000

£23.00

Roger's favourite. Read the Vacqueyras notes above then add - 'bigger, more intense wine, packed with dark chocolate and coffee flavours and blackberry fruit'. Lovers of big, dark reds, this one's for you. 100% organic.

Champagne & Sparkling

Willowglen Brut N.V., South East Australia

£15.00

This delicious, crisp Aussie fizz is made from chardonnay and semillon. Why wait for that special occasion!

Champagne Brut, 1er Cru Chardonnay, Claude Carré, Trépail

£28.00

Claude Carré makes Champagne from his Chardonnay vines in the heart of Champagne's best vineyards. Soft, creamy and elegant with a touch of brioche, it certainly outshines those ubiquitous mass-produced brands.

Halves & Magnums

Chablis, Domaine de Bois d'Yver, George Pico 2001 (half)

£10.00

Sancerre Blanc, Moulin des Vrillères, Christian Lauverjat 2001 (half)

£10.00

Château Carbonneau, Ste. Foye Bordeaux 2000 (half)

£9.00

Château Tour St Bonnet Medoc "Cru Bourgeois" 1998 (magnum)

£36.00

Great smooth claret for celebrations at a good price.

Crozes Hermitage Rouge, Domaine des Entrefaux 2001 (magnum)

£39.00

From the northern Rhône, this wine is 100% Syrah grapes. Blackberry and pepper scented, rich, seductive and full-bodied.

Stickies & Port

Vat 5 Botrytis Semillon, Deen De Bortoli, SE Australia 2000 (half)

£10.00

First smell the orange blossom and honey wafting from the glass, then taste the unctuous honeyed tropical fruit flavours of this superb wine. A must with our home made puds.

Niepoort Ruby Port NV

£20.00

Collectors call Niepoort the 'King of Ports'. These Ports have a depth and level of flavour that out distances the alcohol content. The Ruby is a class above anything else at this level.

By the glass (175ml) £2.00

Niepoort Late Bottled Vintage Port 1998

£25.00

'L.B.V.' is a vintage Port, however it is aged for 4 years or so before being bottled. For those of you after the power, structure and depth of a vintage Port, look no further...

By the glass (175ml) £2.50
